Chris Kwiatkowski, 26, of Arlington, Va., was the decisive winner of the St. Patrick’s 10K in Washington, D.C., Sun., March 8, as he ran 30:26.
Gregory Mariano, 29, of Alexandria, Va., was second in 32:15, and Charlie Ban, 32, of Washington, D.C., wasn’t that much farther back as he ran 32:31 to finish third.
Chris Kwiatkowski attended the University of Oregon where he was a member of the Ducks champion cross-county team and in his senior year qualified for the NCAA outdoor national championships in the 5000 meters.
After graduating with a Bachelors degree in Human Physiology this past spring, he moved across the country to accept a position as assistant track coach at American University in the nation’s capital.
He also is continuing his running career under the guidance of longtime American University head Coach, Matt Centrowitz, Sr., who was himself a running star at Oregon in the 1970s, making two U.S. Olympic teams -- in 1976 and 1980 – competing in the 1500.
