Double Dipsea

My Next Race: Lake Chabot Trail Challenge
My Previous Race: Big Sur International Marathon
Complete Race Listing

It begins at Stinson Beach, runs the length of the Dipsea Trail to Mill Valley then back to Stinson Beach. Epic views, adventures -- and lots of stairs -- await you! The Walt Stack DSE Double Dipsea race is a handicap race. If you've never run a handicap race before you'll find that it gives you a whole new perspective. Instead of everyone starting at the same time, runners are grouped together in wave starts. If you are a slower runner the handicap will give you a big head start. If you're normally one of the lead runners you'll have to work hard to catch everyone! We all tend to run in the same circle of friends at every race. This gives you a chance to meet new people and to say hello to a lot of people who normally are either in front of you or behind you.

Notes: As if the 4,500 foot elevation change wasn't enough, the STAIRS assure no chance to get into any kind of rhythm. Throw in the rocks, roots, and branches and you have a challenging and unforgiving race that was my toughest and slowest race yet for a 13.7 mile, just a bit over a half marathon. This out and back handicapped course had lots of passing in both directions but everyone was very accommodating. I'm very happy with my chip time of 3:21:22, handicapped time of 3:01:22. I always try to finish strong, and had another epic finish line sprint tying with 33 year old Emily who beat me by a well earned half step, though I had a 6 minute (handicapped) head start on her. One hands plant, one branch to the head and a dropped iPhone, but I DO plan on coming back next year!!!
