The 5000m final in London at the Olympic Games this Saturday should be a fast one. There is a good chance someone is going to run faster than 12:57.82 the Olympic Record. The world record is 12:37.35 but who knows. Everyone in the finals ran 13:26 or faster in the qualifying heats on Wednesday. All three Americans (Rupp, Lagat and Lopez) and Britian's Mo Farah qualified for the finals....
The New York Times reported: A mobile lab drove up to the hotel and Galen Rupp prepared for what amounted to the world’s coldest shower. He climbed into a chamber wearing his socks and underwear. His head and hands poked out the top of the cylinder.
For three minutes Tuesday Rupp let nitrogen vapor blow across his body, lowering his skin temperature to about 32 degrees. The treatment, known as a cryosauna, or cryotherapy, is designed to inhibit inflammation and enhance blood flow and oxygenation of the muscles.
On Saturday night, Rupp had won a silver medal in the 10,000 meters, the first Olympic medal in the event for an American since 1964 and only the third ever. His training partner, Mo Farah of Britain, had won gold.

In the words of the immortal Bill Dunn. "Told you!"
TACTICAL-CITY
Referring of course to the 5k. I'll stay quiet on the results in case people haven't watched it yet.
Richard Stiller 8/11/12 3:50 pm Love it if it would be fast ( sub 13 ) but I think it will be tactical until the last mile and then the pace will be down around 4 minutes. Like to see someone take it out but I just doubt it.
Richard Stiller 8/9/12 7:03 am I haven't given up on Bernard Lagat or Lopez Lomong. It could be who comes off the last turn in the ideal position. All three can kick. I saw Lomong kick at Stanford and it was very impressive. I don't believe Lopez has shown us everything yet ( he was an 800 meter runner earlier in his career). Lagat is a wily old veteran of high level competition. It is going to be a heck of a race!!
Bill Dunn 8/8/12 9:04 pm No World Record in the Olympics but maybe sub 13 minutes.
Bill Dunn 8/8/12 8:34 pm Does anybody think one of these guys could get the world record? 12:37.35!
Bob Anderson 8/8/12 6:16 pm I'm cheering for him...he's going to have to go fast the last mile...probably 1:52 or so the last 800. Needs to stay out of trouble too...big field. Americans have done well in distance events so far.
Barry Anderson 8/8/12 1:48 pm The 5000m final in London on Saturday is going to be fast. I think Rupp is going to pick up his second medal...what do you think? No American has won Olympic medals in both the 5,000 and 10,000, much less in the same Games.
